You will receive an email with instructions how to join.

The server will open on Wed 20 Sep, 3 p.m. and will be open for creative, constructive play from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. (that’s right, 5 hours every day), on Wed 20 September, Thurs 21 September, Fri 22 September and then from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday 23 September. Minecraft Wrap Party on Sun 24 September, 4.30 to 5.30 p.m., Room 1 (in The Old School, same building as, but other side from the Little Theatre), included in the server price. This party is only for those who have a Server Pass. (Limited space in Room 1 means we have to do it this way.)

Let’s get Skerries crafting!

PS: You can only purchase one ticket at a time as we need a separate Minecraft User Name for each pass. Thanks!

*Yes, you can access the server from a Windows 10 computer – as long as you are using the Minecraft for the PC aka Minecraft Java Edition.

We’ll be back!

Soundwaves Minecraft 2017 Wed 20 Sep 3 pm to Sat 23 Sep. Party on Sunday!

For the sixth year running, there will be a Soundwaves Minecraft project – and Ciarán, Sabine & Mat have every intention of making it the most epic yet!

Launching Wed 20 September, 3 p.m.

Tickets (limited to 100) will be on sale online, on Eventbrite only, from a week before, i.e. Wed 13 Sep. Here is the Eventbrite link: soundwavesminecraft2017.eventbrite.ie

The server will be open daily from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. (that’s right, 5 hours every day), on Wed 20 September, Thurs 21 September, Fri 22 September and then from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday 23 September. (YAY! 7 hours!) The judges will be busy that night… it takes a good while to make right decisions.

There will be two competitions, Skerries and Fantasy, with three age groups each. And three prizes in each age group (less if we don’t have that many entries)… for each category! Quick, how many prizes is that in total….???

On Sun 24 September, we’ll have the famous wrap up party, and the prize giving. Probably from 4.30 to 5.30 p.m., and probably in Room 1 of the Old School (you know, the other big room, not the Little Theatre.)

Let’s get everybody together and show off our building skills!

The rules will be updated soon, and the sign-up will open on Wed 13 September, a week before we start!

2016 Results & Pics from our Party!

Well done to everyone who was on the server. We had a tough job finding winners for the competition… but here they are! The server is open for another week. We have saved the world as it was. We may not be able to be online much, but you can be if you wish!

If you won but couldn’t make it to the party, don’t worry, Sabine has your certificate (and prize)!

And a big Thank You to our sponsors: Blue Bar, Storm in a Teacup, The Bubble Room, and Skerries News.  Your support was much appreciated!

Download it and unzip it, put it into your Minecraft folder on your PC and off you go!

Also, a few pictures from today’s party. PAAAAHHHTAAAAY!

Sunday on the Server!

Lots of activity on our server, some fantastic builds – and at the same time, still a good bit of space for anyone coming online now.

Those who haven’t done so already can join us for this Sunday (if you / your kids find the time, what with the All Ireland and that) – the server is open until 9 p.m., and we have created a special-price ticket (€3.80 incl. fees, includes next Sunday’s Minecraft Wrap Party from 11 to 12.30 in the Little Theatre), so if you haven’t joined but would like to, here is the link:
https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/skerries-soundwaves-minecraft-tickets-27531164454
As always, you need Minecraft for the PC or Mac (NOT the tablet, PS, XBox/Windows 10 Play Store – that’s a different world).
You’ll get an email with login details as soon as we see your order, normally within 30 minutes (sometimes faster!).
Here are some screen shots of what the crafters have done so far, it’s been a very creative Saturday, and thank you to all those who came along to the drop-in sessions in cccSkerries yesterday! Great fun.
So join us now if you haven’t already! Any difficulties at all, please send an email to soundwavesminecraft2016@gmail.com and we’ll do our best to help.
I’ll leave you with a few pictures of this year’s server. Enjoy!
Sabine

Getting ready for Soundwaves Minecraft 2016

It’s September – that means Soundwaves Month!

And for the fifth time, the Soundwaves Minecraft will be part of Soundwaves!

Go to our Eventbrite page to get one of the server passes (available online only this year), which will allow server access for all of next weekend – from Friday 16 September, 4 p.m. to Sunday 18 September, 9 p.m. You spoke and we listened – most action happened during the weekend, and some parents thought having the server open during school days wasn’t very helpful, so we are now focusing all the game play on Fri (from 4 p.m.), Sat, Sun (until 9 p.m.)!

As before, each player needs to own their Minecraft licence and have a user name for the PC/Mac (NOT Pocket Edition, Playstation, Wii, XBox, and also NOT Windows 10 – those are not compatible with our server).

For the first time, there are free drop-in sessions in the training room of cccSkerries for those who have signed up for the Minecraft Soundwaves Project. Details will be mailed to those who have signed up for Soundwaves Minecraft. It will be fun! First come, first served – five sessions @ six spaces max. You can use your own laptop or one of ours. It’s in 19 Kelly’s Bay Rocks.

And then there will be the wonderful Soundwaves Minecraft Wrap Party, Little Theatre, Sun 25 Sep, 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. (the end time in the brochure is incorrect, please do come and pick up your kids at 12.30). The price for the party is included in the server price!

Any questions? Contact us, Soundwaves Minecraft at info@soundwavesminecraft.com or see soundwavesminecraft.com for info & a few pictures from the last years.
Soundwaves Minecraft, that is Ciarán McKenna aka wututui (server admin; op), Mat May aka 480 272 (creative side; op), Sabine McKenna aka SabineMines (that’s me! Admin, op).

That was Soundwaves Minecraft 2015

So how was Soundwaves Minecraft for you this year? 🙂 For me (SabineMine), 2015 was possibly the most active Soundwaves Minecraft Project yet… I spent most of my afternoons online, and had a great time digging out my big hole (if you get a copy of the world – see below – and look at it, it’s just the beginning of a big mine – my residence is called SabineMinesHere – and that’s what it turned out to be!), having a look at what others were doing, exploring the Nether and playing a little bit in our parallel Survival world.

So many things went on during the week, people came and built their competition entry, and then stayed to explore, build something together, go on adventures in the Nether or the Survival World, and then there was, of course, the online party – that party zone was amazing, thank you so much, everyone who helped prepare it!

The Wrap Party

One day’s rest for the players, a day of preparation & judging for the ops – and then it there was the party on Sunday. After a week of making new friends online, of meeting old friends again (and being very impressed by their ever-increasing Minecraft building skills) and spending time with them in our world, this is where we got to see (nearly) everyone in real life. I think our project is very special in that it brings together Minecrafters across a range of ages, who are all part of the Skerries community. Where else can you play on a safe server with people you know in real life? Great to put faces to names.

The one-hour party was full-on. Printouts of many of the builds! (By no way each of them, but loads and loads.) A video of our world! A Lego corner! A colouring table! Popcorn, marshmallows and other treats! And of course: The Minecraft Build Off, ably orchestrated by Wututui aka Ciarán. As you can see from the pictures, people were busy!

All our 2015 winners

It was an indication of the great buzz we had on the server this year that so many came to the party – practically all players were there on Sunday. And in my mind, everyone who was part of the 2015 project was a winner. Having said that, we did have a few prizes to give out… First of all for the competition on the day:

The Minecraft Build Off

26 participants. 2 minutes per round. 3 rounds. A lot of excitement and cheering from the crowd. And then it was clear… the winners were:

1st: Pukamay (again!)

2nd: Cocopoppy

3rd: Trevorpat

And the 2015 Soundwaves Minecraft Project Winners are….

For the fourth time now, Liam O’Donnell http://liamodonnell.com/  aka Praxismaxis did the judging. Liam is an award-winning author, teacher, and Minecraft fan. He came online from Toronto, where he lives (very useful for a judge to come from far, far away), and we spent a very pleasant yet busy four hours online on Saturday afternoon, virtually walking around the server while he told me via Skype what he thought of the build, and how much he enjoys judging this competition, and how he’d love to come to Skerries soon (he has family in Dublin and is overdue a visit there), while he was filling in a shared Google doc with his comments and rankings. Technology, eh? Minecraft server, Skype, Google docs all at once!  [We’ll have to have a mini party for him when he does come, what do you think?]

In some categories, we had more entries than in others, so Liam picked between 1 and 3 winners and up to two Honourable Mentions.

Do have a look at their builds (and the many other great creations) on the 2015 world, which you can download for yourself (see below)!

The 2015 world for you to download

Would you like to “own” our final Soundwaves Minecraft 2015 world? Then follow the link.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/85f9awslerukiwf/MCSW2015.zip?dl=0

Download the zip and unzip it, then place it into your Minecraft Worlds folder. To find that, go to file manager and search for %appdata% – you should see a folder called .minecraft – and inside that folder, find the folder “saves” and unzip the Zip file into it. It should look like this:

click here to search for Minecraft where to put your world folder

Now, a word of warning – it’s just a copy of the world, without all the bells and whistles that came with the server, so no protecting, /home, /spawn etc. But on the upside – it’s yours to do with as you please! 😀

A bonus fromDescent-2015cover-700H our judge: A free Minecraft eBook for you to download!

Liam O’Donnell, our esteemed judge, is also an author of books for young readers, and he has written a number of Minecraft-based books. He has kindly offered a free copy to the participants of the Skerries Minecraft Project – all you have to do is to go to this link http://liamodonnell.com/free-minecraft-book/ and enter your email address, and “Descent into Overworld” is yours.

That’s it for this year!

We’d like to thank Storm in a Teacup in MinecraftStorm in a Teacup for sponsoring the three first prizes in the Skerries category, and Caroline Curley for the fantastic photographs she sent us. Additional photography
by Michael McKenna, Skerries Camera Club.

A big thank-you to Soundwaves for giving us the opportunity to run this unique event, to Ciarán McKenna, organiser, tech wiz & op, and Mat May, organiser, creator of this accurate Minecraft representation of Skerries, designer of our posters, certificates, badges. I myself, as organiser and op, had a great time and hope that we’ll see you again!

Don’t you just love our 2015 video?

And here are lots and lots of screen shots. Enjoy! Click into any pictures to see them large! “Esc” to get back to the blog.

Please register your details (optional but please) & Crow Minecraft Man

Please let us know what build or builds you’re entering for the competition (closes at 8 p.m. tonight) – you don’t HAVE to do this, but if you do, it will help the judge find your entry, and that’s good, right?

And there will be a little something extra on the party day for the  first five to do so!

Below the form, there’s a screen shot of the result of our arts mini project yesterday, a crow Minecraft man based on Niamh Sharkey’s design (also below). Cute, eh? 😉

See you (the participants of the 2015 Soundwaves Minecraft Project) on Sunday at the Little Theatre from 12 noon!
